watched: mubangbi-dosi (open city). i’ve long been disappointed at what i felt was the lost art of pickpocketting; at least in nyc, wallets just don’t get lifted that often anymore.  maybe they never did, and i’ve just read too many luc sante books, but weaving through the lines of overweight, meandering tourists outside my office, i frequently wish a plague of pickpocketers down upon them all, a plague which has yet to materialise.  you can see, then, why this very solid korean film got my pulse up.  apparently, in south korea, pickpocketting rings can net millions, the crime is practiced with the rigor of an ancient craft, and the authorities have assigned an elite task force just to combat the pickpocketting menace staining the streets of seoul.  i have a list of countries to expatriate to if i ever become a grifter, and south korea’s place on that list is now cemented.
